This year we are excited to partner with local homestead businesses to bring hands-on workshops with make-and-take projects. ALL of our monthly workshops are FREE to attend, but if you or someone in your family would like to make/take something with them, when available, the RSVP link will have a FREE ticket and a FEE ticket. Prices will vary by event, so please plan accordingly.
Please remember to dress for the weather/location/activity and always bring a chair or blanket and a notebook!
If you sign up for a workshop you will receive final details by email. In an effort to protect the privacy of our hosts, we do not publish the location of workshops unless they are in a public location. Make sure you are getting our emails!
2026 Meetings
Pam Mays of Thanksgiving Acres Farm will lead a hands-on workshop that teaches the basics of cold-process soapmaking. Paid participants will create their own one pound loaf of soap to take home and enjoy. Bring safety goggles, latex gloves and an apron. we will provide the rest. This workshop is limited to TEN paid participants.

Our good friend, Joseph Martinez, of Rockbridge Cider Vinegar, will teach us how to care for a fruit orchard! It is challenging to grow apple trees organically in our humid climate. Joseph learned that by growing apple trees in Virginia for over 40 years. In this workshop he’ll share his successes, failures, and ongoing challenges. We’ll tour his orchards and learn the ways that trees develop their own immune systems by taking advantage of a biologically diverse homestead. Joseph will also talk about insect pest control without spraying insecticides, and how to provide soil and tree nutrition. We’ll also taste some handcrafted apple cider Vinegar.
