This year we are excited to partner with local homestead businesses to bring hands-on workshops with make-and-take projects. ALL of our workshops are FREE to attend, but if you or someone in your family would like to make/take something with them, when available, the RSVP link will have a FREE ticket and a FEE ticket. Prices will vary by event, so please plan accordingly.
Please remember to dress for the weather/location/activity and always bring a chair or blanket and a notebook!
If you sign up for a workshop you will receive final details by email. In an effort to protect the privacy of our hosts, we do not publish the location of workshops unless they are in a public location. Make sure you are getting our emails!
2026 Rockbridge County Fair & Expo
Please mark your calendar and plan to join us at the fair! Our community will once again be hosting the Expo portion of the fair, and we would love to spend the weekend with you! You should already be working on your entries for this year’s fair, but if you haven’t started don’t worry - there’s still time! ALSO this year we will be asking for volunteers to help with processing the entries, keeping an eye on the Expo, and helping with judging on Thursday and passing out awards on Saturday. We’ll post a sign-up sheet soon so be ready!
This year’s fair is at The Virginia Horse Center, Thursday September 10 - Saturday September 12. You can see a preview of the Fair Book with all the Expo classes and entry rules on the fair’s website: RockbridgeFair.com/2026-Expo Please feel free to reach out to us with questions!! rockcohomesteaders@gmail.com
2026 Meetings
Joins us for an introduction to Pressure Canning workshop! This will be a great follow-up to the Water Bath Canning class June 30th at the Extension Office.

Susan Meister of Cabin Spring Farm will lead an intro to natural dyeing using locally grown wool and other natural materials. Paid participants will get to dye an item or two to take home.
2:00 - 5:00 pm
Susan has been a fiber artist and shepherdess of many years and is a wealth of knowledge. You won’t want to miss this opportunity to learn about adding value to your homestead products.
In an effort to protect the privacy of our hosts, we do not publish the location of workshops unless they are in a public location. We will send out the address the week of the event, so keep an eye on your email!
Steve Hart of Hart-Land Farm will give a beginner-friendly talk on keeping a family dairy cow. We’ll visit with one of his cows and learn how he manages grazing his grass-fed dairy herd.
Steve’s farm hosts the Kerrs Creek Farmers Market, so we’ll meet at the Kerrs Creek Farm Stand again at 12:00. Come early and check out the market, or join us at 12 for lunch. Bring a chair or a blanket, dress appropriately, and be prepared for a little walking. We won’t meet if it’s pouring, but otherwise we’ll see you there!
